I am giving the Ricoh GR III a second look and am impressed after the recent firmware update. The autofocus seems better just as Ricoh said it would be.
The focus setting I have been testing is called “Full Press Snap.” This is new to me. The Ricoh manual explains1 that when using Full Press Snap, pressing the shutter halfway operates autofocus. However, when pressing the shutter fully, the camera quickly performs shooting at the focus distance set in the camera, which I have set at 2.5 meters. So far, this is working great for me. Most of the time I rely on autofocus, but in a pinch it is nice to have snap focus.
The camera is very customizable and easy to operate with one hand. It feels great in my hand. It is a joy to use so far.
Lightroom does a nice job with the images. I’ve been using Capture One for my Fuji images but for me Lightroom is second nature and has plugins for Flickr and SmugMug. Lightroom and Capture One do not yet have profiles for the GR III. I hope when they do, the different picture styles2 in the camera will be emulated in Lightroom and Capture One.
I have an album on Flickr with some test images which I will add to as I can.
